Sad farewell to Christmas tradition
Not everyone has the means to enjoy a Christmas dinner. For more than 20 years, Norm and Lexy Stevenson — plus a bevy of volunteers and the Montrose Community Foundation — stood up and did something about that. They devoted their Christmas mornings (and a lot of other time for prep work) to between 200 - 300 older adults or shut-ins, making sure they had a hot, festive meal on Dec. 25. Unfortunately, the Stevensons cannot continue the meals this year, owing to health concerns. They are hopeful of connecting with others who might be willing to continue the meals in the future, as detailed in their Saturday letter to the editor here. If you have ideas or can help in 2024/future years, please reach out to 970-275-3300. Even if you can't, please join me in thanking the Stevensons for their generosity and dedication to others. The world needs a few (OK, many! ) more Norms and Lexys. — Katharhynn, from the Newsroom (Here, volunteers prepare Christmas meals for delivery in a previous year.
