Hit the snow running If you've never watched skijoring, coordinators of the local competition describe it as similar to a "winter rodeo." In this fast-paced extreme sport, a horse pulls skiers and snowboarders through a course of banked turns and jumps while they try to hit cool tricks and time hacks.
Every year the exciting sport comes to Ridgway's Ouray County Fairgrounds as professional and amateur athletes compete the ever-changing San Juan Skijoring course. We'll have more on the exciting event, which will include a big air contest and some awesome gap jumps over a Toyota truck, in tomorrow's Outdoors section. Novice competitions begin tomorrow morning, but most of the spectator events including the pro competition and country concert will take place over the weekend. More information can be found at sanjuanskijoring.com/. On another outdoors note, a little later we'll dig into why the BLM is amending certain parts of a plan that will govern how it manages public land in Montrose County for the next 20 years— more on that over the weekend. Festivities begin tomorrow morning and continue all weekend. Courtesy photo/San Juan Skijoring. Cheers, Kylea QUICK LINKS |
