Legislating from the Western Slope ...

Last week, Colorado kicked off the 2024 legislative session. Gov. Polis outlined some priorities in his State of the State speech — such as investing in public transportation — and shortly thereafter four local legislators from the Western Slope sat down with the Montrose Daily Press and Delta County Independent to share their thoughts on Polis's vision for the state, as well as their own priorities for this legislative session.

Sen. Cleave Simpson, Rep. Marc Catlin, Sen. Perry Will and Rep. Matt Soper each felt that Polis was out of step with the needs within their respective districts, and out of touch in general with the rural reaches of the state — rail travel may play well in Denver, they said, less so on the Western Slope.

You can read our publisher Dennis Anderson's account of this discussion with our local legislators in tomorrow's edition of the Montrose Daily Press — or online, right now.

Thanks to books, I cycled through a long list of professions in my early years – forensic pathologist, Irish Setter breeder, ballet dancer, graduate student researcher (I interpreted this as a paying job: half detective, half professional reader) – and an even lengthier list of future homes and travels.
