Waiting to inhale ...

Marijuana has been legal in Colorado for a while now. It was legalized for medicinal use in 2000, then in 2012 the state legalized pot for recreational use.

Not in Montrose though. City or county. Marijuana sales are not allowed here. If you want to purchase pot, you're going to have to drive across the county line, where it's available at numerous outlets. You can, of course, come back home to enjoy it.

This landscape nearly shifted earlier this month, when Rocky Mountain Cannibas was on the verge of getting a ballot initiative before voters by April. The company was working with the city to complete this process, but at the last minute decided more time would be needed to gather the necessary signatures for a ballot initiative — the company is still planning to follow through, but now the aim is for the 2026 ballot.
