Money for $chools? The Montrose County School District is looking at having to take care of some needed upkeep on its facilities. Portions of Montrose High School, for example, are about 80 years old and some of the building is literally falling apart. Recently, the MCSD put out a survey asking residents of the school district if they would support a bond to generate the needed funds for this upkeep. After being presented with information about the age of the building and condition of other school district facilities, 50% of surveyed voters indicated they would likely approve a 11.81 mill property tax increase for 25 years if it were on the ballot this year. That breaks down to a tax increase of $26 per month or $316 annually for a home valued at $400,000. What do you think? Would you be on board with this in order to fund needed repairs on school district infrastructure? The district is still considering whether to put the issue out to voters.
