Good news all around Good evening, Montrose and the world. Today, I would just like to spotlight a few locals doing good things. We get many announcements throughout each year, and I wanted to make sure everyone saw these. First off, Omar Marquez and Osmar Encarnacion of Montrose High brought their A game to the TSA Robotics competition in Denver late last month. The young men nabbed first-place honors — state honors. Well done, gentlemen! Second, Montrose's own Sonshine Patch Preschool got a big nod at the Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Conference on March 9, when director Daisy Chell was named Workplace Wellness Champion. The award recognized her for prioritizing staff health and wellness. Chell is a former missionary with a lengthy history of helping children; she picked up a $1,000 prize. Congratulations to Daisy! Also, we have chess champs. The annual Gifted and Talented Education Chess Tournament took place at the library March 11, with Sawyer Bates taking first, Damien Banks claiming second and Jack Bates earning third. Congratulations to them and all the 14 competitors. — Katharhynn, from the newsroom (Here's Omar and Osmar, with their trophy.
