'Tooth & nail' ... Not everyone is on board when it comes to the proposal to make the Dolores River Canyon a national monument. While proponents view the notion as a step towards protecting natural resources and habitats, some members of local communities are voicing concerns that federal protections could result in limitations of certain activities, such as mining. County commissioners in Montrose were the latest to voice their concerns with the Dolores River monument effort. When a representative from Colorado Wildlands Project showed up to discuss the monument concept this week, commissioners let him know how they felt ... "I don't believe my federal government has our best interest at hand here, therefore, I don't believe you have our best interest at hand. I just do not believe this is going to be good for our community," said Chairman Roger Rash.
