Snow and Ice

Spring is coming

But not yet. There's still a few more weeks of winter left, before the snow really starts melting- or t least before the ski resorts and ice parks close for the season.

This weekend, I face the choice of whether to spend Saint Paddy's Day snowboarding or ice climbing. Tough call.

I chose the former, as I was lucky enough to snag a season pass to Powderhorn through the mountain's Bob Beverly program. I wrote about this program a few weeks ago, which offers low-cost ski and snowboard lessons for first timers and gives graduates the opportunity to purchase a season pass for just around $50 when they complete three classes.

After going through the program I'd recommend it to anyone. Sure, private lessons may be a faster way to learn, but with lift tickets and gear rentals costing what they do, the chance to get three lessons and a season pass for $100 is just too good to pass up.

Of course, Ice climbing would have been fun too, and there's just a few weeks left to hit the Ouray Ice Park- as of now, staff are anticipating closing the park next Sunday.

But, Director Peter O'Neil assured us there's still beautiful conditions and plenty of climbing to be had, and this Sunday staff will be out cooking brats and burgers for an end-of-season bbq.

So, how will you spend the last few weeks of winter?

Cheers,

Kylea from the Newsroom
