Red Hawks close out season in Crested Butte; MHS comfortably inside playoff field

The Red Hawks will close out their season on the road Friday in Crested Butte. The rest of the state will wrap up the regular season on Saturday and CHSAA releases the postseason brackets on Sunday. Montrose is comfortably inside the playoff field as it currently sits at No. 27 in the Class 4A Selection and Seeding Index.

The last piece of repair work on the US Highway 50 Middle Bridge and US 50 Lake Fork Bridge is set to begin May 12, as crews conduct paint operations on the new steel.

Friends rally around man left with paralysis after crash

A young Montrose man is fighting to regain movement in his lower body after a Sunday crash left him severely injured. Friends say Luis Romero, 22, was driving on U.S. 50 that morning, near Delta in the vicinity of Rattlesnake Gulch, when he crashed for unknown reasons. He is now at St. Mary's Hospital, battling to regain some function and preparing for what could life with much less mobility.
