It's that time again in the Uncompahgre Gorge

Just a few months ago, walking through the gorge on a weekend morning meant seeing dozens of ice climbers scaling the walls.

Now, the ice park is no more. But, don't pack your harnesses up with the crampons and ice tools.

This weekend, the gorge will take on its' summer form as the home of the Ouray Via Ferrata. As someone that's not particularly great at hiking or rock climbing, it's one of my favorite summer activities.

And, since it's free and pretty unique, it's one of my favorite things to show off to guests in town. If you haven't tried it yet, it's definitely a must-do activity, at least at some point.

Nearby, the Telluride Via Ferrata is also free- but much more esposed, and a bit more like a hike with just a few more trational via sections. Plus, for challenge seekers, Basecamp's Gold Mountain Via Ferrata is also taking reservations, and offers guided and unguided options.

So, with the seasons a-changin', get out there and get climbing!

Start spring with a splash — and songs: Montrose Mudder and season kickoff concert return Saturday

For the fourth year in a row, Montrose residents and visitors can kick off mud season in a very literal way this Saturday, May 10.

The Montrose Mudder and Kids Mudder races will give participants a chance to take in the scenery near Cerise Park as they run, jump, crawl and splash through obstacles in celebration of spring. Then, the fun will continue with the free Season Kickoff Concert at the Rotary Amphitheater, featuring Fruita-based group Wowzers.
