| Generosity on display If you've opened your paper today, you've seen the latest gift from Jim and Sharen Branscome. The former Montrose couple has donated $1 million to Colorado Mesa University-Montrose for technical education and economic development — an endowment to help students facing financial challenges that would otherwise get in the way of them completing their education. You can read about the Branscomes' generosity in Stephen Woody's feature on A1, or right here. Thank you, Jim and Sharen, for your continued support of Montrose. And thank you, Steve, for the story! Another kind of generosity boosts Montrose, too, and that is generosity of spirit. Recently, the City of Montrose recognized one of the many people here who have that generosity, Carlton Mason, the executive director of CASA of the 7th Judicial District. CASA provides direct advocacy for the children involved in civil dependency and neglect cases; it also operates the Youth Access Center, giving space to kids, as well as other organizations that help young folks; helps young adults who are transitioning out of foster care, but who lack the traditional resources to navigate adulthood; developed two micro-housing communities here and in Delta for that purpose, and most recently opened the multi-generational housing community, Village at San Juan, which is for young folks just starting out, as well as older adults who otherwise face homelessness. Carlton has been at the forefront of it all, and on May 6, the city gave him a You Make a Difference Award. Indeed, he does. And if you want to help him, just reach out to CASA to see what volunteers (or donations) it needs, www.casa7jd.org (Here's Carlton, in the center, at The Village ribbon-cutting last year) Happy Monday!
