Bluegrass and the silver screen

The Western Slope might be rural,

But this community has so much culture to offer. Everywhe you ook something is going on: free live music, screenings at the oldest family-owned drive-in in the country, car shows, art events and more.

This weekend, I got to enjoy the art and cultural scene around the region as both the Ouray International Film Festival and Telluride Bluegrass festival went down.

I chat with the OIFF organizers every year, and it's always fun to hear what they're bringing to the screen. It might be down in Ouray, but that team makes an effort to bring in such a wide range of films that everyone can find something they're interested in.

I also spent Sunday afternoon at Telluride Bluegrass festival, and while Bluegrass isn't always my thing, I knew it would be a good time.

The abundance of live music on the Western Slope is something I think is awesome, and I try to cover opportunities to catch it as much as possible. Even if I wouldn't normally listen to a given genre, I enjoy it much more live, when everybody's dancing with the mountains in the background.

And with summer in full swing, there's plenty more on the horizon, including a free concert in Montrose for the Fourth of July. Cheers until then!
