A sneak peek at tomorrow's print edition …

In tomorrow's print edition of the Montrose Daily Press, you can read about the merging of Lighthouse shelter and Shepard's Hand; as well as about Delta County ranchers' efforts with water conservation and deficit irrigation; and also about new legislation that would convey Crystal Lake and Full Moon Dam to the city of Ouray.

Also in tomorrow's paper, you will unfortunately see stories detailing two tragedies from this past week: the first regarding a school shooting at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, and another detailing the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah, and the announcement by authorities that a suspect in the shooting is in custody

Oh, and also ... it's that time again! Nominations for Best of the Valley are being accepted until 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. Voting starts at 6 a.m. Sept. 16. Check it out here.

Hope you enjoy the paper, tomorrow in print and online everyday at montrosepress.com

City takes steps toward expanding urban renewal areas: Montrose has retained an attorney to discuss a second URA project area

Around town, many may think the Montrose Urban Renewal Authority is synonymous with the Colorado Outdoors development. But, city officials explained at a workshop and meeting last week, the Urban Renewal Authority actually allows the city to designate project areas anywhere in town, and the growing Colorado Outdoors campus could just be the first.
Now, the Montrose City Council has voted to retain legal services to evaluate what it would take to add a second project area downtown and whether it should consider doing so. Designating a new area would give the city different tools for encouraging growth and removing blight, but staff stressed nothing has been decided yet.
