| I love a good flea market, And I also needed something free to do on Saturday with my friends. So, when a post about Pickin' at the Pea popped up on Instagram, we figured why not. The name rang a bell, as I'd seen flyers around town for past events but never quite made it out. While I was expecting to find some cool antiques, maybe score a new cast iron (I resisted) and kill a few hours, I was not expecting the layers upon layers of detail that went into just the decoration scheme, let alone all the local vendors selling their own digs. I resisted the muffin tin, but I may have to chase it down at the Lazy Hound. I had planned on chatting a few for a fairly simple story about how vendors curate their collections for the antique fair (which we ran in yesterday's arts and entertainment section). But, after meeting Kathleen, the woman behind the scenes, I decided the scenes themselves called for their own story. We've told the some of it before, about Pea Green and the general store and the biannual event. But our feature Saturday will take a deeper look at what makes this particular market so magical, and how Kathleen breathes new life into the not just the Pea Green General Store but each little artifact she displays within it for these special events that come around just twice a year. Cheers, Kylea |
