March on MHS kids

I don't frequently cover school sports,

as most of our game coverage is done by our friends at Colorado Preps. However, every once in a while I get to write a feature on school sports or activities, and highlight some great opportunities our high school students have.

This past week, I've done two such stories: a recap of the mountain bike team's last season under director Chris Brown, and a story about the Pride of Montrose Marching Band's weekend at state.

Both group's, by the way, had a great fall. The band set a new record at state, and the mountain bike team finished third in its division and sent around 25 qualifiers to its own state championship.

We've got stories up online with all the details. But, what impressed me the most was talking to the kids. I asked the marching band's assistant director to have a few kids reach out with comments, and got so many responses we decided to let the kids tell the story.

Multiple kids from the bike team reached out as well, and unfortunately some just missed our publishing deadline to be featured. But, all the kids had such great comments about their programs, seasons, and lessons they learned, and it made my day to hear what they had to say.

Cheers,
Kylea
