Election upon us

Voted yet? If not, fill out that ballot and take it over to the clerk's office on South Second, across from the library. We've got about one week left, and your ballot will have to be in-hand at the clerk's by 7 p.m., Nov. 4 . Turning it in at 7:01 p.m. is too late. A postmark won't count.

There are a lot of local issues awaiting your say. The library district wants to keep its 3.85 mill levy in place. We've got three school board seats up for election, with multiple candidates. The city wants your approval to update its charter. A county commissioner is facing a recall vote. You can find our past coverage on our website under the Election Season tab.

Whatever your choices, make sure they count, by returning your ballot in time. You can drop it in the secured box outside of the clerk's office; take it inside and drop it in a box during open hours; vote there in person, or mail it, but if you're going to do that, keep the above info about postmarks in mind.

If you've ever been curious about Pea Green and its twice-yearly vintage market, Kylea Henseler had all the details in her Oct. 25 story. She spoke with Kathleen Finnegan, who organizes the popular Pickin' at the Pea at the community's general store. Read all about it right here

Oh, and finally ... My favorite part of "spooky season" is also upon us. It's ... FALL BACK TIME! Clocks get reset to standard time at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2.

If you ever needed fodder to start an argument, the time-change is probably ample stuff. "Leave the clock alone" has a lot of appeal, but I can't bring myself to agree that we ought to spring forward with Daylight Saving Time and leave it there (like our own legislature, in 2022, although it requires at least four other states in the region to copy us, as well as congressional approval).

Nay, nay! It should be set to standard and then left alone, I say! As it stands, though, all of us are going to be happy for at least part of the year.
