| Happy Thanksgiving! I'm writing this on Wednesday with the ingredients for two pies and an appetizer laying around on my counter. But, by the time it goes out, I'll be enjoying pecan pie and turkey gumbo with a view of the mountains, and there's no better way to kick off the holiday season. Some people might start decorating right after Halloween, but it doesn't really feel like the holidays or winter to me until Thanksgiving. Sadly, it still doesn't feel like winter, and I think my hopes of snowboarding on Friday to really get into the spirit are not going to happen. But, I am starting to feel festive anyway, and so is Montrose. The Christmas activities start as soon as the leftovers are in the fridge, with a tree lighting downtown Friday afternoon. Then, Small Business Saturday will offer shoppers a local black Friday alternative with plenty of great sales and a "Vintage Christmas" theme. I wrote a preview of DART's plans for the day for yesterday's paper, but we'd already printed by the time the list of vendors participating in a themed shopping game was released. It's now up on DART's Facebook page, and the lowdown is that shoppers who make purchases from three participating businesses can bring a signed map back to the Visitor Center for an extra $20 Montrose Bucks coupon while supplies last. So, check it out if you want to shop local this holiday season, and keep an eye out for more Montrose Christmas events like Santa's Cabin and the annual Parade of Lights.
