| Thank you, Montrose! Yesterday, I dropped by Friendship Hall for a peep at prep work for the annual Thanksgiving dinner, put on for free for 30 years and counting. (This year is the 31st.) I found volunteers hard at work, carving ham, and Pete Germann in the kitchen, roasting the turkeys for cool-down and carving — "the best-smelling job in town," is how he put it, and I surely did repent of not having eaten before I dropped by! The work going on showed that, once again, the community stepped up. Last Wednesday, the dinner was still short of volunteers, but by Sunday, kitchen manager Judy Suppes told me every spot was full! Thank you to everyone who volunteered! As a reminder, the meal will be served Thursday at Friendship Hall from noon - 3 p.m.; you can also pick up a to go bag, or by noon Wednesday, you can visit the website or call to arrange for a meal delivery: montrosecommunitydinners.com Phone: 970-318-6724 (English) or 970-318-6759 (Spanish). And as always, you can make a donation if you wish, either online or by mail, to Montrose Community Dinners, P.O. Box 3540, Montrose, CO, 81402. Happy Thanksgiving, Montrose! I'll see you for the dinner! Weekend scene If you were out and about, looking for Christmas and holiday gifts this weekend, you had lots of company — at least, you did if you went to the same stores as me. It is good to see busy businesses. It was also a treat to again see the amazing work of local weavers on display at the San Juan Weavers Guild Show and Sale. Folks who are talented in the fiber arts leave me in awe — I can barely thread a needle, and never really put my mind to crochet, but the weaving I've tried at demos is really fun. I just think of what it means to actually weave cloth, and the amount of work that went into it, both past and across all cultures, and the present. Thanks again to the Guild and to the Ute Indian Museum for hosting the show! - Katharhynn, from the Newsroom |
