Oh SNAP!

By now, I think almost everybody knows SNAP benefits aren't being distributed right now

And there's plenty of stories that can, and have been, written on that topic from every angle, so I won't go into any more detail on that in this newsletter.

But, I wanted to use the platform to give locals a heads up about the Pay It Forward Fund recently created by the Valley Food Partnership, which will help people in need access fresh food from the Montrose Farmers Market, while putting cash right into the pockets of our local producers. While the market typically has a program to accept SNAP benefits, the Pay It Forward initiative is accessible  sible to all.

Here's a clip from the VFP's website explaining the program:

"In response to November's SNAP benefits freeze, the Montrose Farmer's Market is launching a Pay It Forward Fund to support our neighbors and the vendors, farmers and ranchers who serve them. For every $5 donated to the MFM Pay It Forward Fund, the MFM will distribute Market Bucks to members of our community facing food insecurity to spend on local food at the Montrose Farmers Market. Anyone needing food at this time, regardless of income or SNAP status, is welcome to receive these Market Bucks."

We'll have a larger story on this Wednesday, but if you're headed to this Saturday's market, now you know!

Cheers,
Kylea from the Newsroom
