LATE-SEASON FIRES: The Ice Fire in San Juan County passed the 500-acre mark Tuesday night, prompting a forest area closure as larger fires raged elsewhere in the state.
Overnight Tuesday, crews and helicopters made progress, bringing containment to 15%.
"One of the biggest concerns is we received the spot weather forecast — warm, dry and windy, with a lot of potential for a smoke column to grow," said Esther Godson, a public information officer on the fire Tuesday.

FAREWELL OXX: K9 Oxx served his community for nine and half years, from April 2011 to October 2020. Oxx is responsible for removing illegal narcotics from our community and catching bad guys.
Oxx was a very good boy. He died this week of an aggressive form of cancer that hit after his retirement from the Delta County Sheriff's Office. He also served the Montrose County Sheriff's Office before following handler Sgt. Keith Sanders to the DCSO.
"It's tough when you have a partner by your side every day for that long. He did amazing things and there is no doubt in my mind that he always had my back and I could rely on him at anytime," Sanders said.
"It's hard to say goodbye."

THE GREAT PUMPKIN: Sitting with Linus in the pumpkin patch awaiting the famed Great Pumpkin has been a tradition for over 50 years. The popular Halloween special "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" first aired on CBS in 1966 and eventually moved to ABC where it has played around spooky season every year. But this year, if you want your holiday dose of Peanuts fun, you'll need to have Apple TV+. The holiday special, as well as all your other favorite Peanuts specials, is moving to the streaming service, but don't worry. Apple TV will make it available for free for a limited window, from Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Learn how to watch here.
