Hints of plea deal in Sunset Mesa mortuary fraud case spark furor

SENTENCED: A former bar operator in Delta was ordered to serve eight years in prison after pleading guilty to felony drug charges in two cases. Michael Levins was initially charged with a dozen offenses in 2019 and with nine offenses in a second case that year. He ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute; the offenses are class-2 drug felonies. CALL TO ACTION: A Thursday conference call hosted by The Mountain Pact, an effort to mobilize elected officials in western Colorado mountain communities, saw Colorado mountain community elected officials urge Sen. Cory Gardner to take action on the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act, designed to protect 400,000 acres of public land in Colorado with 80,000 acres to be developed into recreation and conservation management areas.
