Vaccinations coming: Montrose County officials urge the public to "hang tight" as a COVID-19 vaccine makes its way here, first to critical health care workers and then to first responders.
The county should begin receiving doses Dec. 22, when an estimated 900 doses of Moderna's vaccine are expected, pending final approvals.

Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color? We've all see the holiday movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell. If you're a fan of the 6-foot-3-inches tall elf, then tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 18 is reason to celebrate.
Dec. 18 is answer the telephone like Buddy the elf day: "Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?"
Elf statistics:
— Elf is the 5th highest grossing Christmas movie of all time ($173.40 million at the Box Office)

— The film's budget was $33 million, which was almost paid off entirely in its opening weekend
— Elf: The Musical grossed over $1 million in the first week on Broadway

Lower participation: School-aged children in the After School Program provided by the Montrose Recreation District has dropped dramatically for fall, with MRD staff serving 11 kids during Quarter 2 (Oct. 19 — Dec. 18) of Montrose County School District's 2020-2021 academic calendar.
Last year, MRD averaged 35 kids in the program.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly why the number of kids in the program has dropped, Tyler Morales, site coordinator for the After School and Summer Enrichment Programs, said, but he believes impacts from the pandemic, such as financial strain on parents or worry about virus spread, could be factors.
