Alleged embezzlement update: Thousands of dollars worth of iTunes gift cards; plane tickets to Texas; hotel bookings and home improvement materials, including a grill and smoker — all are items an arrest affidavit alleges a former Montrose County School District employee spent district money on, with more than $235,000 used to buy items from Walgreens over the course of about five years.
Robert "Steve" McEwin was the district's director of technology. He was arrested last week on suspicion of felony-3 theft of more than $100,000; using a forged academic record and second-degree forgery (both misdemeanors). Formal charges are pending.

Vaccinations underway: Frontline health care workers at Delta County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) made history Thursday morning, as the first people in Delta County to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
It was an uplifting and festive moment when Gwen Eslinger, a DCMH Surgical Tech, received the first vaccine. Eslinger was met with a room full of applause after the vaccine was administered and expressed her relief and excitement at the historic moment.

Ugly sweater: While the traditional holiday office parties may not be happening as they have in years past, the holiday tradition of wearing ugly sweaters can still lighten the mood at the office.
Dec. 18 is National Ugly Sweater Day. Whether you buy one or make your one, this holiday fashion tradition will have you and those around you laughing all the way.
