(Colorado Department of Public Health) Montrose County goes to green: Montrose County has officially moved to level green on the state's COVID-19 dial per the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. ICYMI: Josue Perez and Kelsey Hess dove into the topic of misinformation and tied it back to Montrose. The article published yesterday, and it's definitely worth a read.
Biden admin says no to vaccine passports: Jen Psaki, Biden's press secretary, said yesterday that Americans would not be mandated to carry vaccine passports. In Israel, where more than half of adults have been vaccinated, a green pass system allows fully vaccinated individuals to enter gyms, restaurants and theaters, which are inaccessible to unvaccinated people. (Masks are still required, though.) In the UK, over 60% of the adult population has received at least 1 dose. Some form of a vaccination pass is being discussed. Some governors in the US, such as Ron DeSantis of Florida and Gregg Abbot of Texas, have already passed measures that ban local governments from issuing such documentation. In Florida, businesses are not allowed to restrict access based on vaccination status.
So, vaccine passports won't really be a thing in the US. But how is the private and public sector working to encourage vaccinations? The federal government cannot mandate that adults get vaccinated. (NASA/Flickr) Colorado Company making inflatable space station: The Sierra Nevada Company, headquartered near Boulder, recently announced their plans for an inflatable space station. The habitat module, which can be joined with others once in orbit, is made out of the same fabrics and materials in bulletproof vests. The company hopes to one day deploy their technology on missions to Mars, but their more realistic goals are commercial space travel and agricultural research.
