(Gage Skidmore/Wikimedia Commons) More than $1 million total raised in the race for CO's third congressional district: Although 2022 midterm elections are 19 months away, incumbent Rep. Lauren Boebert and a Democratic challenger, State Sen. Kerry Donovan, have already raised a combined total of over $1,330,000. Boebert has raised over $700,000 in the first quarter of 2021 and Donovan raised more than $630,000.
Donovan is the current frontrunner in a field of at least 5 other Democrats. The party's official candidate will not be chosen until summer 2022.
(Wikimedia Commons) Western State pres. staying on despite faculty disapproval: Although the faculty senate at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison approved a resolution in February asking for new leadership, the board of trustees has deigned that President Greg Salsbury will stay in his role. Salsbury upset many faculty in January when he compared the insurrection at the US Capitol to last summer's racial justice protests throughout the country in an email to school employees. (He also described it as "despicable acts of violence" earlier in the paragraph.) "[Salsbury] is not committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion" and does not show "a willingness to reflectively listen, learn from others with opposing views, and grow," the senate wrote in February.
Good news from vaccine trials! In Pfizer's phase 3 trials with 12-15 year olds, the vaccine demonstrated 100% efficacy.
Over 2,000 adolescents participated in the trial, which has not been peer reviewed yet. Only 18 cases of COVID-19 were detected, and all of those were in the placebo group. The Pfizer vaccine is already approved for 16 and 17-year olds. The company will submit an amendment to their emergency use authorization and hopes that vaccines for this age group will be approved before the start of the school year.
