New amphitheater at Cerise Park under construction: It may not look like much so far, but the City of Montrose hopes that the Rotary Amphitheater will be an outdoor concert venue before the leaves on the still barren start to fall.

Construction has been ongoing since the beginning of March. After starting out with land contouring, workers are now adding underground pipelines before the rest of the project can continue.

Polis expected to sign 2 new gun control bills: Two new gun control bills that recently passed the Colorado state legislature without Republican support are heading to the governor's desk.

Senate Bill 78 would require gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement within five days of realizing it was missing. House Bill 1106 mandates that guns are stored with a trigger lock or in a secured safe in situations where a child — or someone else who shouldn't have access to a gun — could potentially access it.

Both of these bills were introduced before 10 people died in a mass shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder. The political future of a statewide or national ban on assault-style weapons is still unclear.

Rollout of Johnson & Johnson's COVID vaccine paused:
The CDC and the FDA recommend pausing the rollout of the single-dose J&J vaccine this morning after 6 people developed blood clots after receiving the vaccine.

Over 6.8 million Americans have received the jab since the FDA approved it for emergency use on Feb. 27, 2021, the vast majority without any averse side effects. (Statistically, the blood clots have affected one in a million people.)

According to the joint statement released this morning, the CDC will convene an advisory committee to review the data, which the FDA will review along with investigating the special cases.

"Until that process is complete, we are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution," the statement says.

In response to the federal government's guidance, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has said that it will pause the distribution of the J&J vaccine.

Coroner ID's woman shot by Delta deputy; family calls for justice
Details slim after Delta County deputy fatally shoots woman during pursuit
Few details have emerged about the death of Paige Schmidt Pierce, who was fatally shot during a traffic pursuit near Hotchkiss on Friday.

Schmidt, 26, of Austin, died at the scene. The Delta County Sheriff's Office deputy who shot her has been placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with policy.

Circumstances surrounding the chase were not immediately available. Family and friends who established "Justice for Paige" on Facebook consider the shooting unnecessary, stating she was "fleeing police by car when police decided to open fire and shoot her instead of arresting Paige."
