Assault-style weapons ban in CO unlikely: After 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder, many Democratic lawmakers in Colorado renewed calls for gun control measures, such as banning assault-style weapons. But talks have stalled since. President Biden has also announced that he would pursue executive actions to ban "ghost guns" and called for an end to the "epidemic" of gun violence that is an "international embarrassment." Efforts to pass gun control through Congress is unlikely to pass without Republican support in the Senate, which is unlikely. Moreover, Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, said earlier this week the he will not back amending the current Senate filibuster rules or using a budget reconciliation process to push through legislation without bipartisan support. This means that many of Biden's initiatives will face an uphill battle in the legislature. The House passed two gun control laws about a month ago on a mostly party-line vote. They have not been discussed yet in the Senate.
