Is Colorado entering a 4th wave of the pandemic? Although statewide restrictions are easing starting Friday — and Montrose has been designated a level green county — the amount of COVID cases in the state is beginning to rise.

The good news: Vaccinations are increasing — over 2 million Coloradans have gotten at least one dose — and less senior citizens are dying. Montrose has one of the state's lowest test-positivity rate at 1.0%.

The bad news: New case rates are growing, hospitalizations are up and vaccines have not been evenly distributed to people of color, who have already disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

"This is a race against the clock with the variants that are out there," Polis said, according to CPR news. "It's really important now, more than ever wear a mask around others and avoid social gatherings."

Trump's first speech...in a while: Former President Trump spoke at a Republican fundraising event close to his residence in Palm Beach, FL over the weekend.

In the speech, Trump lambasted his former VP Mike Pence and Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, calling him a "dumb son of a bitch." He also went into detail about false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), the former governor, later presented Trump with the first annual 'Champion for Freedom' award from the Nat'l Republican Senatorial Committee. On the other hand, some Republicans are expressing concern about Trump's remarks. As Politico reported:

"Anything that's divisive is a concern and is not helpful for us fighting the battles in Washington and at the state level," Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said on CNN's "State of the Union." "In some ways, it's not a big deal, what he said, but, at the same time, whenever it draws attention, we don't need that. We need unity."

New low-cost airline coming to Grand Junction: Starting next month, Grand Junction's airport will be serviced by a new airline offering one-way fares to Burbank, CA for as low as $19.

All of Avelo's flights are based out of Burbank, a city in the Los Angeles area close to Hollywood. Grand Junction is one of 11 cities in the west that will be serviced by the new airline.

In Montrose, the most recent changes to the airport's service was the addition of Southwest Airlines, which started daily flights to and from Denver as well as weekend service to and from Dallas, starting in June.
