Student loan forgiveness
by Dennis Anderson
The big topic last week was President Biden's wiping away Student loan debt with a stroke of a pen or more appropriately a wave of a magic wand. It's created quite a stir and rightfully so. Meme generation has run overtime on social media. "My mortgage identifies as a student loan." has been a popular one. Then on the other side comparing student loans to PPP loan forgiveness, farm subsidies and bank bailouts is the defense. Bottomline; Biden doesn't have the authority and circumventing congress is poor showing. We'd like to hear your thoughts. Send us a letter to the editor by responding to this email or directly to editor@montrosepress.com.

A new direction for a vital service

You may have caught the news. After years of pressing need and fundraising efforts to have a home of its own, the Black Canyon Boys & Girls Club changed direction on the way it will fulfill that need.

After being bedeviled by such issues as spiraling construction costs, the club instead is buying the San Juan Cinema building on East Main and will renovate it to suit its needs. The new place will still provide elbow room for more kids, and as an added bonus, Executive Director Bud Taylor says, "no mortgage."

It was a real treat to come back from vacation and learn about this new development. Boys & Girls Club is one of the many good organizations I have had the privilege of learning about over the years.

You can read Managing Editor Justin Tubbs' story right here.

Katharhynn from the newsroom, wishing you a happy Monday!
