What a week! And here we go into the weekend as the leaves are continually changing colors. Justin here with your newsletter, and it's a pretty awesome time to live in Western Colorado. Example below, submitted to us by local photographer Jack Jeffers. You can often see examples of his work on our community photos page in the newspaper or online.

I remember my first fall autumn here was pretty magical, about four years ago, and they just get better every year.

If you're looking to get out for a weekend to sightsee, a travel website recommends one West Slope town in particular.

The Museum of the Mountain West is constantly adding, improving and looking for more attractions to get visitors.

I went to the museum Thursday to check out some changes they're making to the gift shop. Utilizing the city's 50-percent-match grant for facade improvements, the museum has added on a western-style feel to the front of the gift shop, which has been expanded (it has pretty much doubled in size). Volunteer help for the project was welcomed on Thursday.

These were two visitors to the museum on Thursday. They, with their pet rats, were stopping off as they take the long way to their new home on the East Coast.

That's Richard Fike, founder and executive director of the museum, looking to pet one of the rats.

Montrose County School District is looking to fill a vacancy. Erik Westesen was the lone candidate to show up to the school board meeting the other night to explain why he should fill that seat. Another candidate couldn't make it due to a personal emergency.

The seat is left open because the elected board member, Jeff Bachman, moved outside the district to take a job.
