Nonprofits lift each other up

Whew! It was a busy weekend. I hope you got to check out at least a few of the things happening in and around town — a rodeo, Oktoberfest, the first-ever Culture Fest and (near and dear to my heart), the Dinner on Main, all happening just this past Saturday.

The dinner aims to raise money for the awesome Sharing Ministries and Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans. But it's also a time to gather with others, recognize first responders — and acknowledge all of Montrose's nonprofits that do so much to make life better for everyone (and often, the neediest among us).

It also was a big night for the Black Canyon Boys & Girls Club. The club just signed the paperwork to close the sale of the San Juan Cinema on East Main, which will be its new HQ, and first permanent home. On top of that, the club was honored with the JustServe Community Award! You can read about it right here.

This is Katharhynn, from the newsroom, thanking all nonprofits and their volunteers!

And also ...

We can't overlook All Points Transit, whose main fundraiser, Oktoberfest, drew revelers to the Montrose Rotary Amphitheater from near and far!

... Or Culture Fest!

In a first for Montrose, many cultures came together for a festival showcasing diversity and connection. The gathering, with food, music, art, vendors and more, was at the Ute Indian Museum on Saturday. In the photo below, small hands lend beats to a community drum circle.
