Kids teach adults at opioid conference I had the privilege of attending the statewide conference for the Colorado Opioid Abatement Council, which is using opioid settlement money to address addiction and crime throughout the state, through individual regions. The conference packed information into three days, so there were several sessions we could not attend, but we did get to hear the rollout of a new awareness campaign targeting youth, the Connect Effect. What made this one all the more important was hearing directly from youth, including girls from Montrose and Delta. The skinny: They don't want to be talked down to; far fewer kids are using drugs than you might think, and they do want to be part of the solution by talking to their peers. Thank you, Ellah Zimmerman, Violette Offett, Michaela Brennan, Lella Young, Kenadee Stewart and Akelia Calkins, for your valuable perspectives. — Katharhynn, from the Newsroom, wishing you a happy Monday.
Birthday wishes
There are birthdays, and then there are, well, birthdays.
Two Montrose residents recently celebrated milestones, Helen Legendre Orr, who turned 100 today and Lloyd Wenzel, who celebrated the Big 9-0 by going skydiving on Friday.
You can read about both of these remarkable folks in the Saturday Daily Press, or by clicking their names above.
Happy Birthday to Helen and Lloyd! (There goes Lloyd! Photo by Kylea Henseler) (And here's Helen! Courtesy photo)
