The Daily Bread's last day ...

Jeremy Morrison
This morning was delicious. A little bittersweet, but mostly just sweet ... especially the pastry!

Today was the Daily Bread's final day in business. For more than 30 years the Main Street establishment has been serving Montrose and now they're closing — and with that, closing a chapter, capping an era.

A few weeks ago, I sat outside enjoying breakfast with a friend, when a woman brought a large jar of sun tea out to the sidewalk, sitting it there to brew. This morning, amidst closing-up-shop logistics, a little girl in an apron helped out in the kitchen as folks in the dining room enjoyed one final, blissful breakfast.

The energy in the Daily Bread this morning was thick and sweet, just like the pastries. You could feel the moment of the present slipping into the past, and then slipping further, into the fog of lore.

Delicious lore. You can read a bit more about this faded legend in a story Kylea wrote about the Daily Bread a few weeks ago.

Have a Good One,

Jeremy Morrison,

Casting about in an oasis
When Dana and Nolan Egbert moved to Montrose about 10 years ago, they watched their son Caleb become deeply immersed in the sport of fly fishing. The couple enjoyed fly fishing themselves, and so well understood what drew their son in, down to the water again and again, casting flies in the rivers and lakes around the region.
