A privilege I've enjoyed many assignments, but few as much as I enjoyed last Thursday, when I sat down with Louis "Babe" Faussone. Mr. Faussone served in WWII, enlisting a few days before he would have been drafted. He served in Japan, came home, and ran a farm for decades with his brother. It did not take long for him to also reveal himself as a generous, considerate human being. He not only served our country, but also established scholarships for students who maybe don't bring home all As, and he founded a book club, among other acts of service. Also, he is just a joy to be around. No wonder, then, that he has so many friends in town, and through Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans. You can help them celebrate Dec. 14, when they will gather at Welcome Home from 8 - 10 a.m. for an open house in celebration of Mr. Faussone's 100th birthday. Happy Birthday, Babe!
SOS: Save Our Supper
Montrose Community Dinner is still seeking someone to replace the kitchen manager, who is a critical part of the annual, free Thanksgiving Day meal at Friendship Hall.
The board is covered for this year, but the current kitchen manager is retiring, and board needs someone willing to learn the ropes by shadowing her this year. Cash donations and volunteers for the meal are also always welcome and needed to help feed you and roughly 2,500 of your friends and neighbors.
If you have a background in restaurants, cooking, organization, ordering supplies — or a willing heart — please contact Holly Padilla at 970-729-1287 or holly.pe@hotmail.com. — Katharhynn, from the Newsroom.
