School board election 101 ...

Jeremy MorrisonThe campaigns are over. The dust is settling. We have some new school board members in Montrose.

With yesterday's election over, the Montrose County School District Board of Education has three new members and one returning incumbent. With the exception of the District B seat — which Ted Valerio secured unopposed — these races were pretty hot.

While Neisha Balleck and Jody Hovde each won their seats by around 700 votes, incumbent Tom West's contest against Charli Oswald was pretty close, with West winning by only a couple hundred votes.

The local school board races mirrored such races around the state and around the nation, with a group of conservative candidates running for seats and talking about things like CRT, LGBTQ-indoctrination and diverting public education funds to allow students to use them for private institutions.

In Montrose, the results are mixed. Two candidates — Balleck and Valerio — throwing their lot in with conservative education advocates and the other two candidates towing a more traditional line when it comes to local education.

This should result in some interesting back-and-forth in school board meetings. We'll be keeping you abreast of those going-ons ...

Have a Good One,

Two out of three's not bad, at least not where the Town of Olathe was concerned on Election Day. Voters there appear to have rejected a bid for a 1% public safety sales tax, but green lighted two measures that will allow retail and medical marijuana to be sold in the municipality.
