Delta County just lifted an evacuation notice after a propane tank fire
A fire at JCP Propane in Delta was brought under control this afternoon, per the Delta Sheriff's office. As a result, the Delta County Sheriff's Office lifted an earlier evacuation order that was issued for residents within a 1-mile radius of the JC Propane station at 1014 1200 Road in southeast Delta.
The public is being asked to avoid the area of 1200 Road between the Montrose County line and B75 Road in Delta, while fire crews continue their response. Also, power lines in the area are for now considered unsafe.
1200 Road will remain closed for now to allow firefighters to complete fire response and cleanup.
Long-term fixes for the Middle Bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir are now expected to be completed by mid-November
At the same time, motorists should prepare for nighttime closures at the Lake Fork Bridge starting Aug. 12, which will affect access to the Lake City Cutoff (Gunnison County Road 26).
Catching waves...on the river
Our fearless and adventurous reporter Kylea Henseler is no stranger to outdoor recreation, and she recently added a new notch to her belt: River surfing.
Kylea joined around 20 people last Wednesday for Montrose Surf and Cycle's free surf night at Riverbottom.
Here's an excerpt of her excursion published over the weekend:
"The Surf and Cycle guys had life jackets, wetsuits, helmets and demo boards, so all we had to do was show up ready to wipe out.
On the surface, the concept is pretty simple. Hop off the river bank or paddle up to the rapid from behind, catch the wave, and stand up very slowly. I would soon learn it's not the same as the quick pop-up required by ocean surfing."

"Don't let your condition be a disability"
Earlier this month I sat down with high school senior Rebecca Miller. And that's a big deal.
Until this year, Rebecca has never been able to speak clearly with her family or those around her due to being born with a cleft lip and palate condition.
(July is National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month)
Now, she hopes to inspire others to look beyond their disabilities as they take on the world.
"Don't let your condition be a disability and follow your dreams because they are achievable," Rebecca said.

Walkers, runners, dogs, strollers — all are welcome, no matter pace or distance. The runners do an out-and-back, with some running the paved trail and some sticking with the dirt and gravel off to the side. Meet at Looney Bean; return to Looney Bean for caffeine and laughter.
9 a.m. - 1 p.m. - The Montrose Farmers Market is open Saturdays on South Uncompahgre Ave., Centennial Plaza and South 1st St. in downtown Montrose. Fresh, local food and artisan crafts from the Western Slope. Live music every weekend and events all year round. The Montrose Farmers Market welcomes NSAP, Double Up Food Bucks and WIC FMNP.

7 p.m. - Joshua Messick, Hammered Dulcimer Champion and recording artist is returning for an epic concert, including local guest musicians. The concert will be at The First Presbyterian Church, 1840 Niagara in Montrose. Tickets at the door are $20 general admission, $15 for Seniors or Veterans, and children under 12 are free. 4 - 8 p.m. - Grace Community Church invites the public to Cerise Park (Rotary Amphitheater) from 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, for "Music by the River." Bands playing include The One takers, Donny Morales, La Familia Music Group and Grace Collective. Also: food trucks, family games and other fun.
