The old is new again ... Downtown Montrose has a new hotel and bar in an old locale — the Rathbone Hotel and Parlor Bar opened recently in the historic K.P. Building. The Rathbone's ribbon cutting serves as a finish line of sorts to a lengthy renovation process. The building had fallen into disrepair following a 2012 fire. It's nice to have a historic property back on line. The K.P. Building was built in 1909 by the Knights of Pythias fraternal organization; that's what the K.P. stands for. The Knight of Pythias was founded in 1864 by Justus Henry Rathbone, which is where the hotel's name is derived. You can read more about the Rathbone's opening in tomorrow's print edition, or online here Read more about the K.P. Building's history, as well as the property's path to its current incarnation, here. I've yet to make it down to the Rathbone's Parlor Bar yet, but when I do I look forward to checking out the floors. Old tile work really rings my bells, and judging by the photos on the Rathbone's Instragram, the floors are worth looking down for.
