Hi friends, It looks like we're in for hotter temperatures this week thanks to high pressure moving in. We're talking near record-breaking temps around 10-20 degrees higher than normal for July. In fact, Saturday highs could push us into triple digits! We may see some showers in the afternoons this week over in the southern divide mountains, but it's still not clear how much rain we'll actually get. Protect yourself from the heat: * Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles. Look before you lock! * Avoid strenuous activity (when possible) during hottest part of the day. * Avoid consumption of alcohol and caffeine...drink extra water, especially if you plan to drink (alcohol or caffeine)! * Keep pets indoors or provide plenty of shade and water. * Wear lightweight, light-colored and loose clothing. * Did I mention drink water? As someone who frequently forgets to hydrate, I find carrying around a water bottle with a straw game-changing. Now, grab a cold drink - it's time to jump into this week's updates! - Cassie Headlines Blue Lakes, our most instagrammed trail, is about to undergo less foot traffic If you haven't yet read Reporter Kylea Henseler's recent story on Blue Lakes, you're missing out. Kylea recently made the very popular hike through Ouray's beloved and viral Blue Lakes Trail. It's one of the busiest and most instagrammed trails in our area! An impressive feat, but, in efforts to protect the trail, the U.S. Forest Service is implementing a new plan to permit the area by Summer 2026. Get your hikes in while you can, and help keep our trails clear and beautiful for the hiker coming after you. DMEA is working on a solar plan that could power 7,000 homes Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) is taking on a large-scale solar project that aims to stabilize power supply while lowering costs. This solar array will provide about 10% of DMEA's power and come with 80 megawatt hours of battery storage, enough to power around 7,000 homes. Montrose celebrated July 4 in grand style I love everything about this photo. This kiddo not only has better posture than me on a good day, but look at that confidence and poise! He may be young, but he certainly knows how to lead a horse through a Fourth of July parade. Check out the rest of our holiday snapshots here! Community Spotlight Kindness is self-care!
