Fire up those grills
Memorial Day may be the unofficial start of Summer, but the Fourth of July signifies the season in all it's glory.

Parades, barbeques, fireworks, family and more mark the most American of American holidays, and where better to celebrate?

Growing up, we always spent this holiday in New Hampshire, where the good fireworks were legal, the mountains were beautiful and the rivers were just freezing enough to make us second guess bridge jumping to celebrate the season- but not quite cold enough that we didn't do it.

Of course, the holiday wasn't complete without a classic american sponge cake made by my grandmother, with cool whip, strawberries and blueberries creating a red, white and blue flag.

Now, my family is a little more scattered, and I'll be celebrating the holiday in the equally American fashion of hanging out with a beer by the beach in Santa Monica. If you're wondering, Allegiant Airlines boasts $90 tickets to LA from Grand Junction, so I figured, why not?

But, here in town there's plenty of good stuff to do, including a parade for the kiddos and all-day celebration in Cerise Park that will culminate with live music and fireworks.

Nearby Ridgway will have a great free concert Thursday night to kick off its annual concert series, while Delta will host its second annual balloon festival.

With lots of good options, how will you spend the holiday?

Cheers and happy 4th,
Kylea from the newsroom
