Ground breaking and grand openings

What's new?

For the last few weeks, it's felt like there's always something new in Montrose to talk about.

Just this week, I attended the ground breaking for Garnet Mesa Solar, a project that is indeed groundbreaking.

Once complete, it will power around 18,000 home with solar energy while around 600 sheep graze below the panels.

Once operational, it will be one of the largest ventures of its kind in Colorado, and that all started with years of work culminating in shovels in the ground Tuesday.

Downtown, the Rathbone opened early this month to plenty of praise from locals and officials. I had a chance to stop by the bar Friday to try the craft cocktails, and the parlor menu didn't disappoint. Down to the garnishes and leather menus full of old pictures, the owners really thought through every detail.

Finally, while river surfing isn't a new thing in Montrose, it's definitely new to me- and I'm not good at it. Yesterday I went to my first Montrose Surf and Cycle Free Surf Night, and if you're interested in trying the sport for yourself, there will be two more free surf nights at 6 p.m. the next two Wednesdays.

So basically, get in the drink, and then grab a drink!

Cheers,
Kylea
