Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving! My family is shifting from lunch to dinner this year, so I'm still awaiting the turkey and stuffing and stuffing myself, tonight and for days following with every variation of leftover turkey sandwich I can think of.

At the moment, though, the only one stuffing their mouth is our dog, Ripple — happily stuffing her mouth with a tennis ball, for which she is very thankful. Soon enough, she'll come by some leftovers and be extra thankful.

If you're looking for some reading sometime over this Thanksgiving holiday, we've got a few stories you should check out. Katharhynn has dug into what might lay ahead for any potential national monument for Dolores River Canyons, and Kylea has profiled a local dog border — Iron Will Dog Lodge — that is celebrating its tenth year. Or, maybe you'd rather prepping for the Red Hawks' playoff game against Pueblo West this weekend and read about MHS's victory last weekend over Mesa Ridge — or the controversy that has unfolded post-game.

It's a beautiful day out there this Thanksgiving, think I may take the dog back outside and enjoy some more sunshine and crisp winter air. After all, this tennis ball isn't gonna throw itself.

Taste fall with creamy tomato basil soup

I don't know about you, but I had a bumper crop of very late tomatoes this year. Everything from Romas to gigantic heirloom the size of a softball. On years like this we all struggle to find uses for them all. Some folks can blanched whole tomatoes, or they can salsa or pasta sauce, some try tons of different ideas to use them up.

The Giving Tree
Grown-up reflections on a children's book

Recently on a walk, I passed by the stump of an old tree, and it reminded me of the last page of a children's book I hadn't thought about in many years, "The Giving Tree," by Shel Silverstein. The cover of this book shows a little boy standing underneath a leafy tree canopy, with a small red apple falling. The boy's arms are outstretched.
