Come and eat!

The day is upon us! Happy (almost) Thanksgiving, Montrose and beyond!  Did you know that if you don't have a place to go, or if you simply don't want to cook, there is a place at the table for you, where you can enjoy a full turkey dinner on Thursday? Yet again, dozens of volunteers and generous sponsors through Montrose Community Dinners are presenting the annual Thanksgiving Friends free dinner, from noon - 3 p.m. Nov. 28. Head on down to Friendship Hall, 1001 N. Second St., county fairgrounds. Have a seat. Have some pie. Enjoy entertainment. And be filled with good company and community pride.

PS: Board member Kevin Kuns said there may be extra food people can pick up Friday, since the charity to which the excess is usually given isn't open in time to receive it this year.

Now if you are going somewhere ... be careful! A massive storm system was expected to start hammering the mountains tonight. The National Weather Service says an atmospheric river will bring a prolonged period of moderate to heavy snow to the area, through Wednesday night.  You can look at the whole packet right here. Go here for updates.

Although the weather is expected to clear off in time for the San Juan Mountain Runners' 50th annual Turkey Trot on Thursday morning, if it's over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house you go for Thanksgiving, proceed with extreme caution. Watch the weather. Check road conditions and travel restrictions at cotrip.org. Grandmother would rather see you later than see you never again.
