In tomorrow's print edition of the Montrose Daily Press, you can read about continued efforts to control the South Rim Fire at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park; the latest legal back-and-forth between the City of Montrose and the Montrose United Methodist Church, following the church's decision to provide a site for unhoused people despite the city's pushback; and also about local public radio station KVNF, which, like other public broadcasting stations, is awaiting a looming decision on whether to gut federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

KVNF sweats it out — Western Slope public radio station ponders potential federal funding cuts

KVNF, along with other public broadcasting stations, is currently sweating out a potentially sweeping loss of funding. Trump's rescissions-package request came with a 45-day deadline, which falls on Friday.

KVNF General Manager Ashley Krest is preparing for the inevitable.

"We're preparing because we know that we're probably going to lose funding," Krest said. "We just don't know when or how much or for how long, if it's legal, will it be legally challenged, that money, once they try to take it?"

When The Wood Brothers take the stage with a sound that blends roots, blues, gospel, jazz and more, bassist and vocalist Chris Wood said the experience is cathartic for both the audience and the musical trio.

"On our best nights, it's kind of like going to church — but not like any church you've ever been to," he said.

Third Bowl Ice Cream has expanded, opening a shop in Grand Junction. It is the first dedicated shop under the Third Bowl name, since the operation began in 2012 in Crested Butte, when Hotchkiss resident Kendall Tankersley had a small ice cream parlor.
