| Sweating it out with KVNF ... Public radio and television has been part of my daily existence for as long as I can remember. From learning with puppets on "Sesame Street" to hearing the day's news on "Morning Edition," to chuckling in my driveway as I stuck around to finish an episode of Car Talk," it's provided education, entertainment, sometimes even enlightenment and illumination. Locally, we've got KVNF, the Western Slope public radio station with studios in Paonia and Montrose. Recently, I spoke with folks at the radio station — general manager Ashley Krest and reporter Brody Wilson — about the prospects of losing federal funding, which could happen by the end of this week. Yesterday, the Senate moved forward with debate on a rescissions package requested by the president which would gut more than a billion dollars of funding from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting — which could have devastating impacts on local public radio stations, especially in rural areas where the stations often serve as the lone source of critical information. To read about how KVNF is approaching this potential slash in funding, check out: KVNF sweats it out. Have a Good One, Jeremy Morrison, managing editor jeremy.morrison@montrosepress.com QUICK LINKS |
