Gardner visits Montrose Battelle facility
GARDNER VISITS BATTELLE FACILITY: Sen. Cory Gardner, along with the Montrose Board of County Commissioners, attended the second tour of the Battelle Decontamination Facility on Tuesday. Colorado has two of the Battelle systems, with the first one installed at Adams County. The Montrose facility is meant to serve the Western Slope as well as areas of eastern Utah, where rural hospitals may have less access to resources.

RETURNING TO THE PEWS: With the variance Montrose County secured from Gov. Jared Polis' "safer at home" order, church congregations will be able to meet in person, albeit at a reduced capacity. Polis' executive orders issued over the COVID-19 pandemic deemed houses of worship as essential, however, those same orders precluded and continue to preclude gatherings of more than 10 people.

Stephen Schiell, MCSD superintendent
STEPPING AWAY: With 38 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in school districts across Colorado and Wisconsin, Stephen Schiell became the next Montrose County School District superintendent in August 2015. Five years later, Schiell is stepping away from education to enjoy retirement.

NEXT PHASE OF COVID-19: Local gyms in Montrose have been closed as COVID-19 forced non-essential businesses to close. In just under two weeks, the county's variance was approved and restaurants, churches and gyms had the go ahead to open at reduced capacity.
