What a week! Katharhynn from the newsroom here, thinking back on the severe weather last week. The heavy rains caused flash flooding in northern Montrose County, where your neighbors will be hurting long after the water has receded and the mud's dried up. The David Hamblin home sustained heavy water damage; sweet corn and other crops were lost and down the road, Yurtstead Farm was wiped out. There are Go Fund Me links for the Hamblins and Yurtstead.
Speaking of flooding: The rains came down along I-70, too, and a mudslide closed the highway in Glenwood Canyon over the weekend.
In case you missed it: Sect member Ika Eden was convicted of child abuse resulting in the deaths of Makayla Roberts and Hannah Marshall. The girls died in 2017, in a hot car, likely due to lack of food and water. On the stand, Ika Eden admitted food and water was withheld and that she "followed the instruction" concerning that. She is the fifth person to be convicted in the deaths.
Way back when ... Perhaps you have a "little red Corvette" you love. Well, thank the workers in Flint, Michigan, who on this day in 1953 assembled the first of what would be an iconic sports car designed by Harley J. Earl of General Motors. Vroom, vroom!
