Good afternoon, Montrose, Hi and hello, Cassie here with your daily newsletter. I'd be lying if I didn't say I already missed the beautiful weather over the Memorial Day weekend, but it's good to be back at it in the office. Memorial Day Weekend views: Since moving from Texas last spring, I haven't had many opportunities for hikes. So naturally I had to take advantage of Sunday's sweet views and perfect weather for hiking the Perimeter Trail in Ouray. I found that soaking at the hot springs for a few hours after the hike was the perfect remedy for sore muscles. Anthony Russo is Montrose's new District II city councilor: After a 3-1 ballot vote from Councilors Barbara Bynum, Dave Frank, Doug Glaspell and David Reed, Anthony Russo won the vacant seat left by former Councilor Dave Bowman. Scholarships for vaccinated minors: Colorado is now offering extending its vaccine incentive offer to students. Minors between 12 and 17 who get the vaccine will be placed in a drawing for $50,000 as part of a vaccine lottery for up to 25 individuals. Gov. Jared Polis noted that the scholarship funds will be placed in a college investment account for when the winners are ready to attend college. Read the full story here.
What's new in the art community: Mosaic is introducing Rich Sprankle as their June artist of the month. Although not native to Colorado, Rich considers Montrose his home. He told Mosaic that "Art is a process of evolution, distillation and ultimately, revelation-the true image and idea often emerging only after an epic battle between pencil and eraser. All of this might be mere exercise if not for some form of inspiration, whether that is trying to make sense of the world or simply delighting in all the quirky magic she has to offer."
