Hi and hello, Cassie here with your newsletter. The weather is beautiful and sunny, but I'm ready to jump into a pool for some relief from the hot weather. Stay cool, Montrose

Say goodbye to plastic and styrofoam containers:
A bill banning single-use plastics and foam polystyrene food containers received final approval from the Colorado General Assembly on Tuesday and is headed over to Gov. Jared Polis' desk for signature. The bill bans stores and retail food establishments from providing these items, with the exception of retail food establishments that are restaurants and not considered a store. More on the new bill and the effective dates can be read here.

Montrose's original fire station got promoted:
The city voted unanimously last Tuesday to place the Montrose Fire Department No. 1 station on the city's register of historic places. The station, located on 24 S Uncompahgre Ave, was built in 1910 to fulfill a critical need for an adequate structure for fire protection. You can read more about the decision and the history of the building here.

Wildfires: Fire season is back and while Montrose isn't yet facing any fire warnings, we are seeing smoke in our skies from outside fires. Keep a lookout before going on those weekend and hiking trips. Currently the San Juan National Forest is experiencing an active fire, as well as Mesa Verde National Park. You can keep track of active wildfires through the Colorado Wildfire Map
