Good afternoon, Montrose It's Josue with today's newsletter. There's a lot of local news to unpack, so let's break it down:
Woods Crossing plat receives approval — with conditions: Woods Crossing is one of the latest residential developments in Montrose, and future traffic, like with other developments, has been brought up by the public as a concern. Montrose City Council heard the public's pleas for some changes, and found some middle ground with the developer, via a verbal agreement. You can read a breakdown of the proposed changes, which ran in today's paper. Follow the color rendering (shown above).
Dozens celebrate bike-to-work day: Have you been biking in June? Locals have been participating in the Bucks for Bikes program, organized by the Montrose Bicycle Alliance, which pays them $2 per day for riding their two-wheeler to work. The program was celebrated in tandem with Thursday's bike-to-work day event at San Juan Brews. Staff writer Anna Lynn Winfrey was at San Juan Brews this morning, and learned why the program has been popular for locals.
PAX making a comeback?: You've seen the downtown statue next to the Park and Main Business Center. Well, the Public Arts eXperience (PAX) committee wants to develop more statues like it for downtown Montrose. So they're reviving the PAX program, which was on the shelved the past few years (the committee wanted to bring it back last year, but, pandemic). Staff writer Cassie Knust has the latest on PAX and its future.
From 41 to 1: Denver Nuggets fans, I know you're disappointed about your team's playoff series loss to the Phoenix Suns in the NBA playoffs, but Nikola Jokic being honored with the 2020-2021 NBA MVP is quite the story.
When Jokic was drafted 41st during the 2014 NBA Draft, ESPN aired a Taco Bell commercial during his draft announcement (there's only 60 picks, so 41 is considered back-half of the second round). Seven years later, he's become one of the best players in the NBA. Oh, and he's the lowest draft pick ever to win the award.
Headed to state: Montrose's Giada Amundson (freshman) and Kendyll Bernatis (sophomore) qualified for the 4A state golf tournament. The pair will tee off on June 21 and 22 in Aurora at the CommonGround golf course.
