Hi and hello! Cassie here with your daily newsletter. Did you know that the more red in the leaf, the more sugar that leaf is storing? That's why Maple trees are so vibrant. Evergreens don't change because their leaves have a thick wax covering that protects the chlorophyl (green) in the leaves.

And speaking of fall leaves, I was able to drive out to Telluride this past weekend and finally saw the infamous fall foliage everyone gushes about. Absolutely incredible!

The suffrage movement can be tracked to a physical location now: Our staff writer, Katharhynn, covered the recent Hinsdale County Courthouse historical designation. The structure is already on the National Register of Historic Places, but now the Preservation Programs for the Colorado Historical Foundation is stepping in.

Famed suffragist Susan B. Anthony stood at the courthouse in 1877 where she delivered a speech for female voting rights among a large crowd.

Colorado District 3 candidates want unity: I've been busy speaking to a couple of candidates this week and it's been interesting! Monday afternoon I chatted with Kellie Rhodes and today I was able to speak with Marina Zimmerman.

A little about the candidates:
Kellie Rhodes is running on the Democrat platform. She draws from her experience in social services, CPS, youth corrections and security corrections. She has extensively researched the link between neurology and empathy in relation to youth within the system.

Her priorities include addressing the housing crisis, helping struggling mothers and children and emphasizing unity.

Marina Zimmerman is running on the Republican platform. She spent 20 years in industrial construction as a crane operator, but has lived in Colorado for 25 years now. Zimmerman also has several degrees, including an associates in the legal field, a bachelor's in political science. She additionally served on the Student Senate as the Legislative Affairs Chair.

Her priorities include mental health education, the housing crisis and renewing relationships needed for a functioning government.

Keep an eye out for the full profiles this week!

There's a new aspirin recommendation for heart attacks: The U.S. Preventive Task Force issued a draft recommendation today to recommend that anyone taking a low-dose aspirin for a first heart attack prevention should cease to do so. This recommendation reverses the decision previously passed in 2016.

I'm corresponding with a CDPHE spokesperson to get more information from experts on what this process will look like, what exactly will look different and who would be impacted should this be implemented next month, so keep an eye out for a more comprehensive update!

It's important to note that the task force said that anyone who has already had a heart attack should not discontinue use. Public comment will be accepted through Nov. 8.
